Step-By-Step Instructions

Step 1

Lay out all broken pieces making sure that all parts are clean and dry. If the inside of the fairing is painted the paint must be removed to allow the filler to bond into the fairing.


Step 2

Fit the pieces together using masking tape applied to the outside of the fairing to keep all of the pieces together. Take care to fit the pieces as close as possible together. When all of the pieces have been put together turn the fairing over and make sure all of the paint, dirt and grease has been removed.


Step 3

Major damage will require that the area be reinforced. Cut the supplied reinforcing strips to fit the flat areas. If reinforcing is required over curved surfaces the strips may be heated and formed to fit the curve. The strips can be scored with a knife and broken or cut with a wood saw or hack saw. The product will not stick to painted or dirty surfaces. Using a dremmel, file, or corse sand paper clean up 1/4” on each side of the crack.


Step 4

Using the applicator bottle put a generous amount of filler cement over the cracks. The filler should be about 3/16” deep and cover 1/4” on each side of the crack. When using reinforcing strips enough filler cement should be used to squeeze out on all sides. After the filler cement has been applied the fairing should be left undisturbed in a warm area for 24 to 48 hours. The filler cement is cured when hard and solid to the touch.


Step 5

Step 6

If some of the pieces have been lost a new piece can be made from the suppled reinforcing strips. shape the new piece to fit as close as possible. Tape the pieces as in step 2 and follow the gluing instructions. Filler cement may be needed on both sides to fill the gaps. Once the filler cement is hard it may be filed and sanded to fit.


Step 7

The filler cement can be used as a body filler as long as you are not putting it over painted or dirty surfaces. Do not use a large amount of fiberglass body filler because it does not flex well and will crack. Spot putty may be used after the piece is primed. Finish sanding should be with a fine grit sand paper (220 grit). the area should be primed with a good quality primer and finish sanded with 400 grit paper prior to painting.


Step 8

The top half of the fairing was painted and the repair is complete. New decals can be purchased from your local cycle shop or ordered from Quarical Products and reapplied. The finished product will look as good as new.
